Analysis: Did Mitt Romney’s Crash Start Now?

If Mitt Romney loses the election, will this be the week that took him down?

Evidence:  In a video, Romney told donors and supporters he doesn’t really care about 47% of the American people, listing them as people who expect health care, housing, food, and ‘you-name-it’.  He said his “job is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

Evidence:  Romney defined the middle class as people earning from $200,000 to $250,000, in an interview with ABC.  He may have meant the top cut-off for middle income people was households earning that.  It still came across as Romney defining the middle class as people who earn from $200,000 to $250,000.

Evidence:  Romney quickly attacked President Obama’s handling of the killing of Ambassador Christopher Stevens, before understanding what had happened, and when the facts became known, Romney continued attacking.  President Obama condemned Romney’s tendency to shoot first and aim later, saying it’s important to think through ramifications.

Prior Evidence:  Romney reached across to Texas Governor Rick Perry and casually offered to bet $10,000.  The subject of the bet immediately lost importance compared to Romney’s extreme ease in betting so much money.  It made him seem out of touch and unable to relate to the average voter.

“Rick, I’ll tell you what, 10,000 bucks?” Romney said. “$10,000 bet?”

In my mind, it was a deal-blower.  I always felt the real reason George Bush lost to Clinton was the moment he admitted he never went into a supermarket.  When Bush was shown a device that read bar codes at cash registers, he thought it would be great to have in stores, not realizing it was already being used in most supermarkets.  It showed Americans how out of touch he was with the problems they were facing.  I believed that killed any second term hopes.

Romney says he doesn’t care about half of all Americans, he thinks middle class starts at $200,000, and he can afford to lose $10,000.

Can you imagine the arrogance of the man were he to become President?
