John McQueen's blog

About "Wednesday Wire"

John McQueen's "Wednesday Wire" is required reading for Democrats all over the world. Highly respected for accuracy and objectivity, we are proud to be able to offer it here.
John McQueen has been following American politics every day since the day in 1956 when John Kennedy asked the Democratic National Convention to nominate Estes Kefauver for Vice President (thereby saving his own career).

He was a Republican - until Goldwater - and is a pragmatic Progressive Democrat.  John has been active with Democrats Abroad for fourteen years, and has been writing Wednesday Wire since November, 2004.  John lives in Heidelberg, Germany.

How we imagine Wednesday Wire is put together...

WW 158 is sponsored by Meredith Wheeler, founder and Chair of the Southwest Chapter of Democrats Abroad France.   Meredith is the creative genius behind the Obama Bridge Project, later named "Yes We Span" which exited a lot of us around the world and the CD of which pleased Barack Obama very much. The idea was carried to the national campaign in the US and was a main reason why Obama campaigned in ruby red Sarasota, Florida the last week of the campaign. Thank you Meredith for your support and all you do for Democrats Abroad!!

WW 159 will appear on 9 December 2008

Topics This Week:

WW Daily Election Report No. 23 and Last

Dear Democrats Around the World,

This is WW Daily Election Report No. 23 and Last, 3 November 2008

Monday daily reports are sponsored by Christine Heinerscheid, Chair, DA Luxembourg.

If you have ALREADY asked to be on the direct link to tomorrow’s bi-hourly reports and do not receive this message from me directly, please advise ASAP.

The pundits have pontificated, the polls have been taken, the candidates are at their last rallies today before going home to await the results and now it is up to the people to decide. The questions now turn to Election Day weather, the ground game in each state, turnout, how many have already voted and for whom, problems at the polls, the fairness of the count, how fast states will report results and how the networks will report. More than a billion US dollars have been spent, 22 months of campaigning for Barack Obama –

                                    and the whole world waits…

"Wednesday Wire 156 is sponsored by Joanne Yaron, Chair of Democrats Abroad-Israel. Joanne was a member of the DPCA 2008 platform committee and took on the thorny section "American Foreign and Defense Policy", which included," the US and the Middle East". Joanne is also very proud of the joint DA Israel-DA France initiative in the passage, at the March 2007 Heidelberg DPCA international meeting, of the landmark resolution "Proactive Policy for Renewal of the Israeli-Palestinian Peace Process"."

WW Election Night Coverage: As previously announced, WW will go to a two hour reporting cycle on Election Night, beginning at 8 pm, Eastern Standard Time. Two years ago there were many around the world, who, either because of work commitments or couldn’t access network or internet reports, relied upon WW to keep them minimally up to date.

On Election Night many will be at all-night election parties perhaps away from their computers and I don’t know whether the listserve moderators will be sitting at their Blackberries to pass on the reports. So….if you wish to receive the bi-hourly reports directly, perhaps to announce results at your election party, please give me an email address to send them to you. I will create a special list for those who wish to directly receive the reports that night and not wait for the listserve. I will need your email address by Sunday, 2 November at the latest. Send me an email to johncmcqueen@gmail.com with the word “Election Night Email” in the subject line. It would help if you would repeat your name and email address in the body of the email, thanks.
